Introduction and Topics:

Optical fiber sensing is a key enabling technology featured with high sensitivity, immunity to electromagnetic interference, corrosion resistance and distributed measurement capability. It plays an irreplaceable role in structural health monitoring, aerospace, civil engineering, energy and transportation. This special session focuses on recent advances in optical fiber sensing principles, devices, systems and engineering applications, promoting academic exchange and technology translation in this field.

The session highlights high-performance fiber sensors, new sensing mechanisms, intelligent signal processing and stable system operation in extreme environments, covering progress from fundamental research to industrial deployment.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Novel fiber sensing principles and structures: FBG, FPI, SPR, Brillouin/Raman scattering, photonic crystal fiber and specialty fiber sensors.
  • High-performance fiber sensing devices: Miniaturized, flexible, embedded and integrated sensors.
  • Sensing systems and signal processing: Distributed/quasi-distributed sensing, multi-parameter measurement and AI-based data demodulation and analysis.
  • Extreme environment adaptation: High-temperature, high-pressure, corrosive and strong electromagnetic environment applications.
  • Engineering applications: Aerospace, infrastructure, oil and gas, wind power, transportation and biomedical fields.
